There is a great deal of research being carried out across the University that involves the Third Sector and Third Sector Organizations (TSOs). This research may be focussed upon the Sector itself, or simply be using it as a research site. It may also be theoretical and/or applied research. A few examples include on-going work about the role of TSOs in public services provision, the Third Sector and family welfare, understanding cross-sectoral relationships using complexity theory, and on issues of representation, participation and social inclusion.
The recent establishment of the ESRC Research Centre on Charitable Giving and Philanthropy and the Scottish arm of the ESRC Third Sector Research Centre at the University (both nested within the Business School) provides us with an opportunity to add value and consolidate this work across the University, with the intent of adding value to it and enhancing its impact both upon the global research community and upon public policy and practice in Scotland.
The first meeting of Public Policy Network members working on and with TSOs took place on Friday, 13th March 2009. If you would like to learn more about TSO research at the university, please contact Stephen Osborne.
